2015 Lefcoe Leadership alumna Dr. Jaclyn Walker quotes Socrates as she describes the philosophy of her new creation, the M.A.N. (Men Alleviating Negativity) “All Citizens deserve a Second Chance” Foundation.  “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building the new,” she says.  Accordingly, her organization provides services such as resume writing, classes on professional etiquette, and training on how to become readjusted to society after incarceration to convicted felons who want to work toward another chance at life.

M.A.N.’s kickoff meeting was held on Friday, July 27, 2015 in the Portsmouth Partnership’s briefing room.  While the foundation is dedicated to stopping recidivism among African-American convicted felons, no one will be denied services based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or national origin. The foundation’s 26 week curriculum is set up to serve up to two cohorts each year. Coursework features 3 phases and 6 action steps, including a family support/bonding group. Dr. Walker (pictured at left, front row, center), who serves as Executive Director, has ensured the foundation’s success by attracting an executive board of 14 professionals including educators and social activists, a social worker, an accountant, and an attorney.  Interested volunteers, sponsors or donors may log-on at http://www.glamourprestige.net/the-man-foundation to get involved.

Interested volunteers should plan to attend the support group kick-off event on Saturday, October 3rd from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Main Branch of the Portsmouth Public Library.
